Illinois Medicaid Redetermination

Illinois Medicaid Redetermination: What Patients Need to Know

If you have Medicaid, Illinois is checking to see if you are still eligible.

Take these five steps now if you are covered by Medicaid.

  1. Create or log into your account at abe.illinois.gov. Click on Manage My Case to begin. Online is the easiest way to connect. You can also call (800) 843-6154. If you need a live interpreter, one will be provided for you.
  2. Verify your address: You have a few options to update your contact information.
    • Make changes online by going to abe.illinois.gov and clicking on Manage My Case.
    • Contact your local Department of Human Services. Visit the Illinois Department of Human Services site to find your local office.
    • Call the Illinois Medicaid Hotline at (877) 805-5312 between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; select Option 8.
  3. Find your due date: Medicaid renewal happens once a year. To find your due date, also called “redetermination date,” check the Benefit Details tab at abe.illinois.gov
  4. Watch your mail: Illinois Medicaid will send you a letter about your coverage and tell you if you need to complete a renewal form. You’ll receive your official letter a month before your due date.
  5. Complete your renewal form (if you receive one): Fill out the renewal form right away to avoid a gap in your Medicaid coverage.
    • Mail your form in based on the instructions in your letter.
    • Renew online by going to Manage My Case at abe.illinois.gov.
    • Call (800) 843-6154.

Connect to coverage

If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, ask your employer if they offer health insurance. Or visit Getcovered.illinois.gov to shop for quality, affordable coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). You usually have 30 to 60 days to enroll in a new plan. This is called a "Special Enrollment Period."
