Shorter recoveries
Physicians in our Digestive Diseases program treat many conditions without surgery. If you do need surgery, our providers use small cuts whenever possible to reduce pain and improve recovery time. Our surgeons also use a proven enhanced recovery after surgery protocol that can improve your healing time.
Teams of specialists
Many digestive diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and colitis, require long-term care to prevent flare-ups. We bring together a diverse team of specialists to build a custom treatment plan. Many of our doctors are also researchers looking for new treatments through clinical trials. We are prepared to treat the most complex cases and the most severe disease.

Interventional Endoscopy Procedures Performed
Center for Interventional and Therapeutic Endoscopy (CITE)
At the Rush Center for Interventional and Therapeutic Endoscopy, or CITE, we specialize in the care of patients who need an endoscopy. An endoscopy can be used to perform a wide range of procedures, all while avoiding major surgery. Our fellowship-trained interventional endoscopists are prepared to treat complex cases.
We are dedicated to seeing you quickly once you contact us. We have three renovated suites (with new equipment) dedicated to CITE and our patients. If you need another specialist, our team will work closely with you and your care team to make sure you get the care you need.
Rush Excellence in Digestive Diseases
We guide you through your entire continuum of care — from diagnosis and treatment through survivorship.
Many gastrointestinal cancers require treatment from a range of medical specialties. The Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Clinic for Gastrointestinal Cancers at Rush University Medical Center brings together experts from across different disciplines to make a customized care plan. Tailored to your specific needs, your care plan is created by a team of doctors in different specialties.
GI Cancer CareFor many GI conditions, an endoscopy is how your doctor will often diagnose and sometimes treat your disease. An endoscopy uses a flexible tube with a camera attached to look inside your digestive tract. The person performing your endoscopy may also be able to remove tissues in real time, preventing the need for surgery.
From the time you’re referred to us, we work closely with your other doctors to make sure your care is coordinated and seamless.
Interventional Gastroenterology CareAnyone with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) knows how disruptive a flare-up can be. At Rush, our experts take a team-based approach to care. You may work with a dietitian, a psychologist and even a specialized IBD pharmacist. These experts can work with you to achieve remission.
