eGFR Test Results
Your eGFR (estimated GFR, a measure of your kidney’s function) is based on your blood creatinine level but takes into account other factors including age and gender.
Until now this equation included race. We consider the inclusion of race, a social construct, to be invalid because it falsely assumes there are biological differences in kidney function based on race. At Rush we are committed to eliminating systemic racism and are dropping race from the eGFR equation.
If you are someone who identifies as African American or Black, your eGFR may now be a little lower but this does not necessarily mean that your kidney function has declined. Please contact your physician if you have any concerns about your eGFR.
