Rush Excellence in Skin Cancer Treatment
- Improved outcomes: Our skin cancer experts specialize in the most advanced skin cancer treatments, which have helped improve outcomes for people who have skin cancers, including metastatic melanoma.
- Expertise in advanced-stage skin cancers: Rush’s experienced team of skin cancer specialists see a high volume of patients for the treatment of melanoma, one of the most aggressive types of skin cancers. But thanks to breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment, our team of specialists has helped improve the overall outlook for patients. In fact, six years ago, overall survival for a patient diagnosed with metastatic melanoma was about nine months. Now, with either combination targeted therapy or combination immunotherapy, overall survival rates at one year are over 80%.
- Cutting-edge treatments: Rush University Medical Center is one of a few medical centers that offer isolated limb infusion (ILI) for skin cancers. This minimally invasive procedure delivers high doses of chemotherapy to an affected limb but spares the rest of the body from the toxicity of the chemotherapy. We also provide advanced treatments such as a genetically modified cancer-killing virus and aggressive immunotherapies.
- Convenient locations: We know that early detection is important and that many people treated for skin cancer remain at increased risk for recurrence. So we offer increased access for screening and prevention at a number of convenient locations Rush locations in Chicago, Oak Park, Lisle, Oak Brook and Aurora/Fox Valley, as well as Rush Skin Cancer Services and Pinnacle Dermatology, which has about 20 locations throughout the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana.
