Rush University Medical Center has been nationally recognized as an approved NPF Center by the National Pancreas Foundation, a designation given to hospitals that take a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients with pancreatitis. The NPF has previously recognized Rush as a Center of Excellence for pancreatic cancer care.

NPF Centers provide excellent care to patients, offering outstanding guidance on pain management, nutrition information, surgery and psychosocial support. The centers also seek to advance research and lead the way for heightened awareness and understanding of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and related conditions.

“Rush’s priority has always been to provide the best and most innovative care to our patients,” said Dr. Omar Lateef, CEO of Rush University Medical Center and Rush University System for Health. “Our providers who see patients dealing with pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer work tirelessly to ensure they receive comprehensive care. This award is a great recognition of the work they put in every day.”

Rush was evaluated through an extensive auditing process, meeting criteria for expert physician specialties such as gastroenterology, pancreatic surgery and interventional radiology and for its patient-focused programs for pain management and psychosocial support.

“Receiving NPF designation is a profound honor, affirming our relentless commitment to excellence in patient care and cutting-edge treatment,” said Wojciech Blogowski, MD, medical director of Rush’s pancreas program. “This recognition strengthens our resolve to lead in pancreatic care and fuels our passion to innovate in this field.”

Blogowski along with Irving Waxman, MD, chief or Rush’s Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, led the effort toward this designation.
