(Jan. 24, 2019) Rush Oak Park Hospital has once again earned accreditation from The Joint Commission, demonstrating compliance with national standards for health care quality and safety.
Rush Oak Park Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey in November. During the review, a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards related to several areas, including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews.
"Rush Oak Park Hospital is pleased to again receive accreditation from The Joint Commission," said Bruce Elegant, president and CEO of the hospital. "It's verification on how our dedicated employees provide quality care at the highest level every day at Rush Oak Park Hospital. The Rush standard of excellence that they represent is the reason we continue to outshine other community hospitals."
The Joint Commission has accredited hospitals for more than 60 years. The commission's standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help hospitals measure, assess and improve performance.
"Joint Commission accreditation provides hospitals with the processes needed to improve in a variety of areas from the enhancement of staff education to the improvement of daily business operations," said Mark G. "In addition, our accreditation helps hospitals enhance their risk management and risk reduction strategies. We commend Rush Oak Park Hospital for its efforts to become a quality improvement organization."
Accreditation from The Joint Commission is awarded for a three-year period.
