Chicago is hosting the Democratic National Convention from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22. With events at the United Center, McCormick Place and other venues around Chicago, the convention will lead to road closures and likely traffic delays around Rush University Medical Center and other downtown-area Rush locations.
Although Rush will be open during the convention, patients and visitors heading to and from Rush can expect road closures along with traffic and public transit delays, particularly from Aug. 15 to Aug. 24.
I need an appointment during the convention. What are my options?
- Plan ahead for your appointment at Rush University Medical Center. We are open and accepting in-person appointments during the convention. Please allow for twice your usual travel time to Rush. Disruptions may be less likely before noon. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you may need to reschedule.
- Schedule a virtual visit. You can schedule your virtual visit online or get virtual care today or tomorrow. You can also call (312) 942-5555.
- Choose a different week for your in-person appointment, if possible. To reschedule, visit MyChart or call (312) 942-5555.
- Choose a different Rush location for your appointment. Increased traffic and delays are expected near Rush University Medical Center, Rush South Loop and Rush West Loop. You may be able to see a provider at another convenient Rush location that will not be affected by the convention.

How has Rush prepared for the convention?
The DNC Steering Committee has been hard at work for months. We partnered with local, state and federal agencies to prepare for this major event. We’ve also worked with stakeholders at Rush.
From a readiness drill to signage around campus to communicating with patients, we’ve worked hard to ensure we’re prepared.
