About Rush Copley Diabetes Center

At the Rush Copley Diabetes Education Center, a highly trained health care team teaches patients how to cope and live with diabetes. Patients learn how to stay healthy and prevent complications by practicing better self-management. 

The Diabetes Education Center is recognized by the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program as a provider of high-quality education services, meeting the standards set forth by the most experienced certifying body for Diabetes Self Management Training.  The program offers outpatient services for children and adults with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Free Blood Glucose Screening

Free blood sugar screenings are available from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays on a first-come, first-served basis at the Diabetes Center.

 

Learn To Manage Your Diabetes

Learn to self-manage your diabetes. Topics include diabetes disease process; coping with diabetes; lifestyle (nutrition, exercise, stress reduction); monitoring blood sugar; medications and how they work; and complications of diabetes.

To register, call (630) 898-3649. A physician's referral is needed. Most health plans cover diabetes education for those with a diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
 

Individualized Care Plan

The treatment program is an individualized care plan that includes diet, exercise and/or medication, and teaches patients how to administer insulin, use an insulin pump and read a glucometer. Comprehensive diabetes education consists of:

  • Assessment
  • Developing and implementing a plan of care specific to the standards set by the American Diabetes Association
  • Goal setting
  • Evaluation
  • Nutrition Counseling

A referral from your physician is required to enter the program.  Referrals must be faxed before an appointment can be scheduled. Most insurance plans, including Medicare, provide coverage for diabetes education.
