Glycomic Modulation of Gut Microbiome During HIV Infection

Clinical Trial Protocol Description:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the microbiome of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV+) individuals currently treated with ART (antiretroviral therapy) treatment. Participants are asked to complete an at-home stool collection kit, online questionnaires, a blood draw, and a colonoscopy with biopsies.

Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria:

In order to participate you must meet the following criteria:

For HIV+ ART-treated participants:

  • Are 18 to 65 years of age.
  • Are infected with HIV-1.
  • Have been on ART for at least 12 months.
  • Have had no change in ART for at least three months

For HIV- participants:

  • Are 18 to 65 years of age.
  • Have been matched to the HIV+ ART-treated group (age (+/- 5 years), gender, ethnicity, smoking, and body mass index (+/-3)). 
  • Have a scheduled colonoscopy at Rush University Medical Center.
