Benefits eligibility:

Rush benefits are offered to employees and their eligible dependents. Eligibility is based on work location, specific job classification, job status and regular work hours.

If you will be a member of a collective bargaining unit at Rush University Medical Center, its contract will determine benefits eligibility. 

Health and wellness benefits

Rush offers eligible employees comprehensive medical, dental, vision and other programs to care for your health and well-being.  

Medical insurance

We offer the three following medical plan options:  

  • High Deductible Health Plan with Health Savings Account
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) 
  • Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) at Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital locations only

These options are designed to save you money when you get care from Rush providers and at Rush facilities. Prescription drug benefits are included with medical plan coverage. Mail order discounts are available. You and Rush share the cost. Your cost is based on plan, coverage level and salary tier. 

Dental insurance

We offer the two following dental insurance options:

  • Preferred provider organization (PPO)
  • Health maintenance organization (HMO) 

You and Rush share the cost. Your cost is based on plan and coverage level.

Vision insurance

We offer a vision insurance plan that provides comprehensive coverage, including eye exams and discounts on eyewear from retail and online providers. You pay the full cost based on coverage level. 

Wellness benefits

Beyond medical, dental and vision insurance, we also offer the following benefits for your health and wellness:

  • Wellness Programs at Rush
  • Free or discounted fitness center access, depending on employment location 
  • Rush Employee Assistance Program: The EAP is a support hub that provides you and your family access to information, education, counseling and resources to help take care of your overall well-being.

Financial Benefits

Rush offers benefits that help you plan for future expenses in the near- and long-term, including resources in case of illness, accident, disability and death. The following benefits are offered to eligible employees: 

  • 403(b) (RUMC/ROPH) or 401(k) (RCMC) retirement savings plans with employer match. Please note, the type of retirement savings plan offered depends on your employment location.
  • Basic life insurance and accident insurance at no cost with the option for supplemental life and accident insurance for you and eligible dependents.
  • Short- and basic long-term disability benefits at no cost with the option to increase your long-term disability benefits.  
  • Flexible spending accounts as a way for you to pay many of your health care, dependent care and commuter expenses on a pre-tax basis up to IRS limits.  
  • Health savings account, set up automatically if you enroll in the HDHP with HSA medical option to help you save and pay for qualified health care expenses with tax-free dollars now and in the future, including during retirement. Both you and Rush can contribute money on a pre-tax basis up to IRS limits.
  • Employee discounts through PerkSpot, a web-based service offering discounts from hundreds of retailers and entertainment venues.

To help you achieve this balance, we offer the following benefits to eligible employees:

  • Paid time off (PTO): PTO can be used for vacation, holidays or any type of personal day, as well as for missed time from work due to illness or injury. Rush currently recognizes seven national holidays. Unless scheduled to work, you must use PTO for the following:  
    • New Year’s Day  
    • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day  
    • Memorial Day  
    • Independence Day  
    • Labor Day  
    • Thanksgiving Day  
    • Christmas Day
  • Parental leave: After you work for Rush for at least one year, we provide four weeks of paid parental leave when you welcome new children into your family through birth, adoption or foster placement. 
  • Access to Laurance Armour Day School: This early childhood care facility near Rush University Medical Center offers a daycare for babies and toddlers and a preschool licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the City of Chicago. It is available for Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park employees.
  • Access to Bright Horizons: This center at Illinois Medical District provides back-up child care, adult and elder care, and pet care. Through partnership with Rover, services include dog walking, pet setting, boarding and day care. It is available for Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park employees.

To help you accomplish your development and education goals, the following benefits are offered to eligible employees meeting status and length-of-service requirements:  

  • Reimbursement for some educational and certification expenses through the following programs:  
    • Employee Enhancement Program: You'll get reimbursement for eligible expenses related to job enhancement activities depending on employment location.
    • Rush University Internal Degree Program: You'll get pre-paid tuition for classes at Rush University depending on employment classification and location.
    • External Degree Program: If you are an eligible employee pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university, you can receive out-of-pocket tuition reimbursement for classes up to an annual maximum per calendar year.
    • Internal Degree Program for Spouses/Dependents: If you are a full-time employee, a spouse or one dependent is eligible for reimbursement of nine credit hours per term when pursuing a degree at Rush University depending on employment location.
  • A free LinkedIn Learning account. LinkedIn Learning is an online library of expert-led video courses that help you discover and develop business, technology-related and creative skills. You can learn at your own pace and even explore passions not directly related to your career.
