When a child struggles to learn, make friends, use impulse control or focus, parents may wonder why. Every child is different, but the structure and chemistry of the brain can often affect how children behave.
At the Rush Neurobehavioral Center, or RNBC, we focus on these brain-based issues in children from 18 months to 18 years.
In our clinic, we evaluate each child’s set of strengths and challenges and test for specific issues — such as learning disabilities, ADHD and autism. Our research team focuses on healthy social-emotional development in children and adolescents, developing novel assessments and interventions, and partnering with the community to better understand and serve youth. Our education team develops curriculum, videos and workshops for educators, schools and families.
Our goal is to work with kids and teenagers to build their strengths and thrive in life and relationships.
Rush Excellence in Social, Emotional and Learning Challenges Care
- Whole-child care: We work with you, your child, teachers and other therapists and professionals in your child’s life to build a custom plan. This plan is shared with those same teachers and professionals so they can support your child in their goals.
- Strong community partnerships: In addition to integrating teachers into your child’s plan, we work closely with school systems as a whole. Our research and education teams collaborate with school systems to both learn about how interventions can help students and teach those interventions to educators.
- Invested in research: Our research program has a long history of developing web-based social-emotional assessments for youth with and without neurobehavioral disorders.
- Practicum training experience: We are committed to providing a comprehensive and supportive training experience for doctoral level students across the Chicagoland area. Practicum students at RNBC are provided with a steady caseload of patients, live supervision, dedicated individual and group supervision, and weekly didactics tailored to each practicum cohort across areas of neuropsychology and therapy practice. Patients served include children ages 2 through young adulthood with a wide variety of developmental, psychological, and medical needs. Apply now.
- Fellowship program: Our postdoctoral fellowship program - open to any applicant in the country - involves a comprehensive assessment of children, adolescents, and young adults with developmental, attention, learning, autism spectrum, behavioral and/or psychiatric disorders. Learn more.
