An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and lessen the chance that you will spread it to others. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices which advises the Centers for Disease Control recommends annual flu shots for everyone age 6 months and older.
The seasonal flu vaccine for both adults and children is now available.
Fluzone High-Dose and Fluarix Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine
Fluzone High-Dose influenza vaccine is for patients 65 years of age or older. This vaccine was created with a higher dose of antigen in order to give older people (65 years of age or older) a better immune response and therefore better protection against flu.
Fluarix Quadrivalent influenza vaccine is for people ages 6 months and older. This vaccine protects against four different types of influenza where the regular flu shot protects against three different types. Specifically, the Fluarix flu vaccine protects against two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.
