Rush general neurologists combine the highest level of clinical excellence with a shared desire to care for patients with even the most complex cases. As one of the highest-volume neurology centers in the Midwest, Rush treats thousands of patients each year, many of whom have been seen by several primary care physicians and neurologists without a clear diagnosis or who have not been presented with a full range of care options. Drawing on that experience, our general neurologists can present minimally invasive treatments that have worked for other patients with similar symptoms and conditions — or refer patients to a team of specialists and subspecialists across disciplines to provide further care as needed.
When it comes to specialized care, our team is one of the most well-equipped in the region. Rush is the only major facility in the Midwest to offer focused ultrasound care, a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure for tremor that does not involve brain surgery. We offer botulinum toxin injections and infusions for the treatment of migraines. And we have a comprehensive brain health clinic for patients with MS and related conditions that combines lifestyle modification and other therapies to provide care, as well as educational sessions for patients to understand their condition and treatment options.
Our neurology and neurosurgery programs have been recognized as among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Rush has earned accolades from the American Heart Association for stroke care and is certified as a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our team has received grants from the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. With multiple locations around the Chicago area, our acclaimed care providers can meet your patients closer to where they live.

Why Refer Patients Here for General Neurology?
- Nationally recognized care: U.S. News & World Report includes Rush on its Best Hospitals Honor Roll and ranks our neurology and neurosurgery program among the best in the country. Rush has also been included on multiple honor rolls for stroke care by the American Heart Association and named a Center of Excellence by the Parkinson's Foundation.
- Care where your patients live: Rush has general neurologists throughout the Chicago area, including the South Loop, downtown Chicago, Oak Park, Oak Brook and Aurora.
- Experts across disciplines: Our team has access to specialists and neurosurgeons who are experts in movement disorders, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular diseases and more. These specialists collaborate to form care plans that address all patients’ health needs.
- Personalized care: Despite being a high-volume facility, Rush offers patients a personalized approach. Our general neurologists work with patients to understand who they are, their familial and symptom histories, how their lives have been affected and what their health goals may be. From there, they develop a custom treatment plan with the help of subspecialists from neurology and neurosurgery as well as many other disciplines. Each patient is treated as an individual, and their care plan is as unique as their needs.
What Is the Process for Referring a General Neurology Patient?
To refer a patient, call our Provider Express Line at (312) 947-4725 or visit our page on Referring and Transferring Patients to learn more and find our online provider referral form. Referred patients usually have an appointment with a general neurologist within two weeks. If their condition is urgent, they will be seen sooner and triaged appropriately.
Once the patient has been evaluated, the referring physician will receive a letter outlining any findings and whether the patient will need additional testing or follow-up care.
