The family services at Rush Behavioral Health include several options or levels of involvement.
The most intensive and interactive program is called Family Week. It is a three-day program on Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. It includes education, interaction with other family members and multifamily group therapy that includes the patient.
Over the years, this has proven to be an effective opportunity to open communication between family members and begin the healing process. It is especially important for family members of professionals and out-of-town individuals to participate in this program.
The feedback from patients over the years has been that Family Week is the “most important and powerful” component of their treatment experience. There is also an opportunity for education only on Monday of Family Week.
All loved ones and family members are encouraged to engage in a one-hour family session at some point during the treatment course. This is essential for those who cannot participate in Family Week because it is the only opportunity for the clinical staff to meet with the individual. The family therapist or another clinician will telephone to set up a time during the week to meet with the individual. Al-Anon is strongly encouraged for all family members.
