The Rush Approach to Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologists at Rush are committed to correcting, restoring or maintaining your vision. We deploy the latest proven treatments, including laser procedures and eye-drop medications and injections. Even if you have an eye ailment that used to be difficult to treat, such as macular degeneration, you may be able to maintain your eyesight thanks to these minimally invasive approaches.
Many of our ophthalmologists specialize in specific types of eye conditions, such as cornea disorders or eyelid problems, and undergo years of additional medical training in their subspecialty. They also take care of a high number of patients with these specific eye conditions. All of this ensures that you will obtain expert eye care from a highly experienced physician.
Rush Excellence in Ophthalmology
- A focus on patient comfort and convenience: Many eye procedures can now be done in our clinics in a matter of minutes using minimally invasive approaches. This means that you will not need a long recovery period. For instance, cataract surgery is now done using laser technologies. The actual procedure only takes 15 to 20 minutes per eye. You will have little to no pain and, within a day, you will notice a major improvement in your vision.
- The latest advances: Rush has invested in the latest technologies to ensure we can diagnose and treat your eye conditions accurately, successfully and safely. A high-definition 3D surgical platform (NGENUITY) allows our ophthalmologists to perform intricate cataract, cornea, glaucoma and retinal surgery. Optical refractive analysis aberrometry improves cataract lens implant selection, while femtosecond laser technology enhances cataract surgery. Optical coherence tomography angiography makes diagnosis of glaucoma and macular disease more precise.
- Active clinical trials: Many ophthalmologists at Rush are also researchers who test and evaluate new treatments for macular degeneration, uveitis (eye inflammation), corneal dystrophies and infections, cancer-related eye symptoms and other eye conditions. At any given time, we have multiple clinical trials under way. You may be able to participate in these trials of new treatments, as well as benefit from the knowledge we gain from this research.
- Convenient access near you: Rush has a large number of ophthalmologists who see patients in multiple Chicago locations as well as in numerous suburban offices. This means you will likely find a Rush ophthalmologist with an office near your home. We also have a same-day urgent care clinic at Rush University Medical Center that allows you to see an ophthalmologist quickly if you have an urgent eye issue, such as sudden vision loss.
