As part of Rush's mission to provide comprehensive, coordinated health care to our patients, we offer several financial assistance programs to help patients with their health care costs.
Qualifying for financial assistance
Our financial counselors or customer service representatives are available to perform a financial assessment to determine which one of the following programs is the best fit for you. We will help you navigate the application and supporting documentation requirements, if required, and review the eligibility requirements.
- Charity Care Program: Rush bill may be discounted up to 100% if your family income is equal to or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Uninsured patient discount: Rush bill may be discounted by 80% for patients who are uninsured and whose family income is equal to or below 600% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Underinsured patient discount: Rush bill may be discounted by 80% for patients who are underinsured and whose family income is greater than 300% and equal to or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Presumptive charity care: Rush bill may be discounted by 100% if you are uninsured and your family income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Other qualifying criteria is required. Please refer to the Financial Assistance Policy for more details.
- Catastrophic Balance Program: Rush bill may be discounted to a maximum of 20% of your household income on an episodic basis, during a rolling twelve-month period.
- Self-Pay Discount Program: Rush bill may be discounted by 50% for uninsured patients who do not otherwise qualify for another financial assistance program.

Applying for financial assistance
To be evaluated for financial assistance programs, you can apply on MyChart or by mail. Follow the instructions for each option listed below.
MyChart
- Log on to your MyChart account.
- On the Billing menu, click on Financial Assistance.
- Follow the prompts.
By mail
- Download the financial assistance application in English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese or Polish.
- Complete the form.
- Mail the completed form to either the Rush University Medical Center or Rush Oak Park Hospital address below, depending on where you received care.
